Ancient Lithuanian Hillforts

This collection features ancient hillforts, known as piliakalniai, situated along the scenic bends of the Nemunas River near Birštonas and Prienai. Lithuanian Hillforts

These five hillforts, known locally as piliakalniai, represent the medieval defensive heritage of the Birštonas region along the Nemunas river loops. Ranging from the prominent Vytautas Hill to the strategic embankments at Paverkniai and Norkūnai, these archaeological sites served as vital fortifications against Teutonic raids between the 1st and 14th centuries.
