Castles and Monuments

Cyprus’s strategic Mediterranean location is reflected in its diverse fortifications and memorials. This collection spans from the 10th-century Saint Hilarion Castle in the Kyrenia Mountains to the Ottoman-era Hamam Omerye in Nicosia. The list includes coastal defenses like the Venetian-built Kyrenia Castle and the medieval Larnaca Fort, alongside the high-altitude Kantara Castle. Modern history is represented by the Akamas Fire Lookout and significant monuments dedicated to Grigoris Afxentiou near the Machairas Monastery, marking key sites of the island's struggle for independence.
