Dachstein Peaks & Glaciers

The Dachstein Mountains in central Austria feature a dramatic landscape of limestone peaks and retreating glaciers. This UNESCO World Heritage region is dominated by Hoher Dachstein, the second-highest mountain in the Northern Limestone Alps at 2,995 meters. The range includes the Hallstätter, Gosau, and Schladminger glaciers, alongside prominent peaks like the Torstein and the jagged Gosaukamm ridge. These formations offer diverse terrain for mountaineering, via ferrata climbing, and glaciology study within the Styrian and Upper Austrian Alps.
