Kazanlak Unmissables

The Valley of the Thracian Kings centers around Kazanlak, home to the 4th-century BCE UNESCO-listed Thracian Tomb known for its remarkably preserved Hellenistic frescoes. The surrounding landscape features the Golyama Kosmatka mound, the final resting place of King Seuthes III, and several unique stone-built burial chambers like Shushmanets and Ostrusha. Overlooking the valley are the Shipka Memorial, a stone tribute to the 1877-1878 War of Liberation, and the Buzludzha monument, a brutalist saucer-shaped structure former headquarters of the Bulgarian Communist Party.
