Desert Wonders

This collection highlights the geological landmarks of the remote Murzuq District in the Libyan Sahara. The centerpiece is Waw an Namus, a volcanic caldera surrounded by a 10-kilometer field of black basaltic ash and containing three distinct salt lakes. The list also features isolated peaks of the Tibesti Mountains near the southern border, such as Tummo Mountain and Ehi Adé Zédo, alongside remote desert salt lakes and natural hot springs.

Waw an Namus is a volcano in Libya. Of either Pleistocene or Holocene age, it is located within the eastern Fezzan region.
