Siracusa’s history spans over two millennia, centered on the limestone island of Ortigia and the expansive Neapolis Archaeological Park. The city features the 5th-century BC Temple of Apollo, a Baroque Cathedral built into the remains of an ancient Greek temple, and one of the largest Greek theatres in existence. Notable sites include the Ear of Dionysius, a limestone cave with unique acoustics, and the coastal Castello Maniace. From the Catacombs of St. John to the regional archaeological museum, the city preserves significant Greek, Roman, and early Christian heritage.
