Kerry's Scenic Lakes

County Kerry’s landscape is defined by its glacial heritage, featuring a mix of expansive lowland waters and high-altitude corrie lakes. This collection includes Lough Leane, the largest of Killarney’s three lakes, known for its historical monastic ruins and medieval castle. Further west, Lough Currane provides a premier habitat for Atlantic salmon and sea trout. The list also highlights remote mountain tarns like Coomlougha, situated within the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks, and Looscaunagh Lough, which marks the entrance to the rugged Black Valley.

Lough Leane

Lough Leane is the largest of the three lakes of Killarney, in County Kerry.

Lough Currane

Freshwater lake near Waterville known for sea trout and Atlantic salmon fishing. It is connected to the Atlantic Ocean via the short Currane River.

Black Lake

One of several glacial lakes situated within the Gap of Dunloe, a narrow mountain pass between the MacGillycuddy's Reeks and Purple Mountain.
