Historic Forts and Palaces

This collection highlights the defensive and architectural evolution of the Bay of Kotor. It includes the medieval Venetian fortifications of St. John, towering above the Old Town, alongside 19th-century Austro-Hungarian forts like Goražda and Vrmac. The list also features prominent Baroque palaces in Perast, such as the Smekja and Bujović residences, and the Roman mosaics of Risan dating back to the 2nd century AD. Fort of St John

Venetian fortification situated 280 meters above Kotor's Old Town. The complex includes medieval ramparts, the 15th-century Church of Our Lady of Remedy, and strategic bastions that form part of the city's UNESCO-listed defense system.

Smekja Palace

The largest palace in Perast, constructed in 1764 for the Smekja seafaring family. Built entirely from Korčula stone, this Baroque structure features prominent balconies and the family coat of arms.

18th-century Baroque palace in Perast built of Korčula stone. Once the residence of the noble Smekja family, it stands as a significant example of the town's maritime wealth and architectural heritage.

Bujovic Palace

17th-century Baroque palace designed by Venetian architect Giovanni Battista Fonte. It currently houses the Perast Town Museum and features five balconies supported by stone brackets carved with lion heads.

Fort Vrmac is a former fortification of the Austro-Hungarian Empire located on the southern end of the Vrmac ridge near Tivat in Montenegro.

Zmajevic Palace

17th-century Baroque residence of the Zmajević family, also known as the Bishop's Palace. It features a defensive tower and interior frescoes painted by the famous local artist Tripo Kokolja.

Tvrđava Trojica

Austro-Hungarian watchtower and fort built in the 19th century. It served as a strategic observation point at the junction of roads connecting Kotor, Budva, and the former capital, Cetinje.

Roman Villa of Hypnos

2nd-century Roman villa ruins featuring exceptionally well-preserved floor mosaics. The site includes the only known mosaic depiction of Hypnos, the god of sleep, found in the Balkans.
