Historic Sites of Fez

Fez contains one of the world's best-preserved medieval cities, characterized by its UNESCO-listed Medina and Marinid-era architecture. This collection highlights the city’s defensive history through 16th-century Saadian forts like Borj Nord and Borj Sud, its religious heritage at the 14th-century Madrasa al-Attarine, and its intricate urban design seen in the zellij-tiled Nejjarine Fountain and the massive gates of the historic city walls.

Borj Nord

Borj Nord or Burj al-Shamal, Al-Burj ash-Shamali is a fort in the city of Fez, Morocco.

Borj Sud

Another fortress built to watch over Fez. It is less visited than Borj Nord yet it is well worth visiting for its breath-taking views.

Borj Sud

A 16th-century military tower commissioned by Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur. It stands on the hills south of Fes el Bali, providing a strategic vantage point overlooking the entire Medina.

An 18th-century public fountain decorated with traditional zellij tilework and carved cedar wood. It is a central feature of the Nejjarine Square, located near the historic woodworkers' caravanserai.
