Sarandë

Historic Sites

Sarandë’s history spans from ancient Greek and Roman periods to Ottoman rule. This collection features the 16th-century Lëkurësi Castle, built by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, and the 6th-century ruins of the Forty Saints Monastery. In the city center, the late Roman walls of Onhezmus Castle sit alongside museums housing ancient mosaics and ethnographic exhibits that detail the region's cultural evolution.

Lëkurësi Castle

Built in 1537 by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, this strategic Ottoman fortress features a square plan with two round towers. It offers panoramic views over the Butrint lagoon and the island of Corfu.

Forty Saints Monastery

The Monastery of the Forty Saint Martyrs is a ruined Eastern Orthodox monastery overlooking the coastal city of Sarandë in southern Albania.

Archeological Museum

This museum displays artifacts recovered from the ancient city of Onhezmus, including a notable 6th-century floor mosaic and various Roman-era finds.
