Historic sites in Saranda

Sarandë’s history spans from ancient Greek and Roman periods to Ottoman rule. This collection features the 16th-century Lëkurësi Castle, built by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, and the 6th-century ruins of the Forty Saints Monastery. Lëkurësi Castle

Built in 1537 by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, this strategic Ottoman fortress features a square plan with two round towers. It offers panoramic views over the Butrint lagoon and the island of Corfu.

Forty Saints Monastery

The Monastery of the Forty Saint Martyrs is a ruined Eastern Orthodox monastery overlooking the coastal city of Sarandë in southern Albania.
