Telč: Zachariáš's Renaissance Dream

Discover how a fire and one ambitious nobleman shaped Telč, the small UNESCO-listed town in the Vysočina highlands. This short walk follows Zachariáš of Hradec's sixteenth-century rebuilding: through the Upper Gate, along the arcaded market square with its gabled houses, out through the Lower Gate to the fishponds that protected and funded the town, past the Gothic church of St James, and into the Italian-style chateau. It starts at the Upper Gate on Palackého Street, about ten minutes on foot from Telč's bus and train stations.
