Badulla Essentials

Badulla serves as a gateway to Sri Lanka’s Uva Province, characterized by dramatic elevation changes and colonial-era engineering. The region features the Nine Arches Bridge and the Demodara Spiral, showcasing early 20th-century railway design. Natural landmarks include the 190-foot Dunhinda Falls and the challenging ascent of Ella Rock. Nine Arches Bridge Viewpoint

Elevated vantage points overlooking a 91-meter-long railway viaduct. Built in 1921 entirely from stone, brick, and cement, the bridge stands 24 meters high without steel support.

Demodara Railway Spiral

A unique railway loop where the track passes under itself through a tunnel. This engineering feat allows trains to navigate the steep gradient of the Demodara hills.

Bogoda Wooden Bridge

Built in the 16th century during the Dambadeniya era, this is the oldest surviving wooden bridge in Sri Lanka, constructed entirely without iron nails.
