Gotlands län Essentials

Gotland is defined by the UNESCO-listed Hanseatic town of Visby, home to a remarkably preserved 13th-century defensive wall and numerous medieval church ruins like St. Katarina. Beyond the city, the island features the Lummelunda Cave’s karst formations and the cinematic landscapes of Fårö, where the Bergman Center honors filmmaker Ingmar Bergman. The region's history is further preserved at the Gotland Museum, while the coastline is marked by the 19th-century Hoburg Lighthouse and the sandy shores of Sudersand.
