Öland’s ecclesiastical landscape is defined by its medieval heritage and 19th-century neoclassical "Tegnér churches." This collection features sites ranging from the exceptionally preserved 12th-century Romanesque Gärdslösa kyrka to structures with fortified defensive towers like Persnäs and Högby. Many of these buildings incorporate ancient runestones and historical artifacts, reflecting the island's transition from early Christian missions to the established Lutheran tradition.
