Troodos Monasteries and Churches

The Troodos Mountains house a significant collection of Byzantine and post-Byzantine churches and monasteries, including several UNESCO World Heritage sites. These structures are characterized by their unique timber-roofed architecture, developed to protect the buildings from heavy mountain snow. Inside, visitors can find remarkably preserved interior frescoes and sacred icons dating from the 11th to the 16th centuries, offering insight into the evolution of Orthodox iconography and Cypriot monastic traditions.
