West Azarbaijan Province contains a high concentration of UNESCO-listed heritage and ancient religious sites. The region features the Sasanian-era ruins of Takht-e Soleyman and the Urartian Bastam Citadel, alongside prehistoric mounds like Teppe Hasanlu. Its religious history is preserved in the ancient Armenian Saint Thaddeus Monastery and the Assyrian Naneh Maryam Church.
