Military Heritage of Hel

The Hel Peninsula served as a strategic military stronghold for over a century, most notably during the 1939 defense of Poland. Coastal Attractions in Hel

Hel’s coastal landscape features a blend of maritime navigation, military history, and natural sand formations. The 41.5-meter red brick lighthouse provides a vantage point over the peninsula’s tip, where the Baltic Sea meets the Bay of Puck at Plaża Cypel. The area is notable for its underwater heritage, including the scuttled destroyers ORP Wicher II and ORP Grom II, and the ORP Bryza K-18, a cutter intentionally sunk to create a diving site. These wrecks, alongside shore-accessible remains like the Kuter WŁA-55, document the region's naval and fishing history.
