Historic Castles and Ruins

Veszprém county contains a dense concentration of medieval fortifications and ecclesiastical ruins. This collection includes the 13th-century Sümeg Castle, one of Hungary's best-preserved fortresses, and the hilltop ruins of Szigliget and Csesznek. Beyond defensive structures, the list highlights architectural rarities like the Romanesque round church of Öskü, the Neo-Gothic Nádasdy Mansion, and the unique 18th-century heart-shaped limestone grave markers in Balatonudvari. These sites span from the early Árpád dynasty through the Ottoman wars to the 19th century.
