Highlights of Koprivshtitsa

Koprivshtitsa is a living museum of the Bulgarian National Revival, preserved for its 19th-century architecture and its pivotal role in the 1876 April Uprising. This collection highlights the ornate homes of prominent revolutionaries and poets, such as Todor Kableshkov and Dimcho Debelyanov. Key sites include the Kalachev Bridge, where the rebellion began, and merchant houses like the Oslekov and Lyutov homes, which showcase elaborate murals and unique symmetrical wooden facades.

First Shot bridge

Also known as Kalachev Bridge, this is the historic site where the first shot of the 1876 April Uprising was fired against Ottoman rule.

Ksa-muzej "Georgi Benkovski"

The 1831 birthplace of revolutionary leader Georgi Benkovski, featuring traditional wooden architecture and personal artifacts from the 1876 uprising.

Kashta-muzej "Luben i Petko Karavelovi"

A museum complex including the 1810 family home and an 1835 winter house. It displays the original printing press used for revolutionary newspapers.

Ksa-muzej "Todor Kableskov"

Built in 1845 in the Plovdiv architectural style, this was the home of the revolutionary who penned the "Bloody Letter" to ignite the April Uprising.

Oslekov House

An 1856 merchant's home noted for its facade supported by cedar columns and interior murals depicting European cities visited by the owner.

Lutovata ksa

An 1854 townhouse showcasing Bulgarian late Baroque style, famous for its painted ceilings and the decorative "alafranga" niche in the main hall.

Ksa muzej Dimco Debelanov

The blue-painted birthplace of poet Dimcho Debelyanov, containing his personal belongings and a garden reflecting the melancholic atmosphere of his lyrical works.
