Archaeological Sites & Ruins

The Évora District preserves a dense concentration of historical monuments spanning from the Paleolithic to the Renaissance. This selection highlights the Almendres Cromlech, the largest megalithic complex on the Iberian Peninsula, alongside the exceptionally preserved 1st-century Roman Temple of Évora. The region's archaeological landscape is further defined by the 16th-century Silver Water Aqueduct, Paleolithic rock art in the Escoural Cave, and numerous Neolithic dolmens and menhirs scattered across the Alentejo plains.

Roman Temple of Évora

The Roman Temple of Évora, also referred to as the Templo de Diana is an ancient temple in the Portuguese city of Évora.

Almendres Cromlech

The largest megalithic complex in the Iberian Peninsula, this site dates back to the 6th millennium BC. It consists of 95 granite monoliths arranged in two large concentric circles oriented toward the sunrise.
