If you want to experience the atmosphere of the Joseon dynasty, this place is a must-visit for you. It is located near the Gyeongbokgung Palace and throughout its existence, it was a neighbourhood popular among the aristocracy (and rich people in general). Its name translates as the “northern village” and it consists of many hanoks, traditional Korean houses.
There are many different attractions located in the area that you can visit (e.g. Unhyeongung – the palace, The Museum of Korean Buddhist Art or the Han Sangsoo Embroidery Workshop). For better navigation, you should consider getting a useful map in the Information Centre.
Also, since the complex is rather large, be sure to save enough time for the visit.
Guided tours through the village run daily at 10 am and 2 pm (also at 3 pm on weekends) and need to be booked at least three days in advance (groups need to book five days in advance).
Tours are offered in Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean language.
There are several different routes, see the details on the official website.
The village itself is free. There are numerous attractions though, and the rates are as follows:
Adults / Teens
Unhyeongung (Palace): KRW 700 / 300
The Museum of Korean Buddhist Art: KRW 3,500 / 2,000
