Opened in 1965, the museum stands on the site of a house where Dante Alighieri was born in 1265. With exhibitions spread over three floors, the museum is devoted to this great Italian writer, artist, and politician.
The first floor displays documents about the 13th century Florence and Dante's early years and the second floor is devoted to the years Dante spent in exile because of his political beliefs. The third floor focuses on the iconography and reproductions of Dante's work over the centuries.
