One of the best-known churches in the world is also a true masterpiece of French Gothic architecture. It was finished in the 14th century and later made famous by Victor Hugo and his novel "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" which takes place here.
The outside will take your breath away with its ornate facade but mainly with the beautiful stained glass windows. In spring, the cathedral's beauty is highlighted by the blossoming trees.
The interior is worthy of attention as well for its statues and altars and again for the breathtaking stained glass windows. Many famed Christian relics can be found inside the cathedral - e.g. the Crown of Thorns or pieces of the True Cross.
Since it is such a popular sight, there are often long queues by the entrance and also security checks. No baggage is allowed. You can take part in self-guided or guided tours organized in several languages. For further details concerning the tours, please, consult the official website.
The cathedral is currently closed due to ongoing reconstruction.
