See the grave site and the memorial dedicated to the former President of the United States John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Kennedy is one of only three presidents, who were not buried in their native state. This was caused by his visit to this cemetery mere eleven days before his death, where he was impressed by the peaceful ambience of the place. His widow, Jacqueline Kennedy, agreed to the change of the burial ground with the words “He belongs to the people”. She also expressed the wish to equip the grave with an eternal fire, which she personally lit during Kennedy´s funeral.
Today he rests in peace with his wife and his children, who were reburied near him. The gravesite is about 15 minutes of walking away from the Arlington Cemetery Metro station (blue metro line).
