Magi Chapel

Local nameCappella dei Magi
LocationFlorence, Italy

Located on the principal floor in the Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the private chapel of the Medici family has walls covered by frescoes painted by Benozzo Gozzoli in the 15th century.

The Journey of the Magi to Bethlehem covers three walls and depicts the journey of the Three Magi to Bethlehem to see the Nativity of Jesus. Caspar, the youngest of Magi, leads the procession on a white horse. Balthasar is portrayed on a horse on the south wall and Melchior, the oldest Magus, is painted on the west wall.

The painting also includes portraits of some of the members of the Medici family. It's certainly one of Gozzoli's masterpieces.
