This large burial site holds more than 150,000 graves. It opened in 1883 and many notable people are buried here, including the former presidents of the Catalan Government Francesc Macià and Lluis Companys, the musician Isaac Albéniz, the founder of FC Barcelona Joan Gamper or the celebrated painter and sculptor Joan Miró.

Some of the famous monuments are influenced by Gothic and Art- Nouveau style. Also, note the artworks created by Josep M. Jujol, Josep Puig i Cadafalch and Eusebi Arnau.
