After being severely damaged during the war, the museum reopened its doors to the public in 2009. It now shows huge collections of Egyptian art, prehistoric objects, and classical antiquities. One of the highlights of the museum is definitely the bust of the Egyptian queen Nefertiti. Neues Museum also organizes a number of public tours and workshops.
The museum itself is built in the Neoclassical style. Interestingly, this building was the first in Berlin which was constructed with the help of a steam engine.
