This square was once an important historical place, as it witnessed several executions in the 19th century. Since then, the image of the plaza has changed several times.
Where once stood a public swimming pool, started a construction of a new sports centre. It was unfortunately soon left unfinished, due to the economic crises and lack of finances.
Madrid citizens decided to reclaim the space for them and started organising community events here, giving the square a lively atmosphere once again.
Since then, Plaza de la Cebada has become a meeting place for the whole neighbourhood of La Latina.
