One of the dominants of the old part of Istanbul is also known as the Blue Mosque, thanks to the blue paint used to decorate the interior. Being just a stone’s throw away from Hagia Sophia, this mosque belongs to one of the most popular sights in Istanbul.
The complex with its five main domes, eight secondary domes and a vast inner courtyard covers the area of more than 11,000 square meters and its six minarets dominate the skyline of Istanbul.
When you enter the mosque, you might feel like you are inside a beautiful kaleidoscope. The decoration composed of more than 20,000 ceramic tiles is simply breath-taking.
Note that certain dress code is required – every visitor should wear long trousers or skirt and a sleeved shirt. Women are also expected to wear a scarf to cover their hair. Also, you must take off your shoes before entering the mosque.
Daily: 8:30 am - hour before dusk
The Mosque is closed for tourists during praying times.
