The Karlstor

Local nameKarlstor
LocationMunich, Deutschland

What used to be a city wall in Munich is now one of the three remaining Gothic city gates, which leads right into the historical centre of this beautiful city, opening into Karlsplatz Square.

The area around is always bustling with people - locals and tourists alike, that are strolling through the streets, going to cafés, restaurants or just shopping in the many small stores and boutiques. It is truly one of the biggest shopping areas and gives off a genuine Munich vibe.

Initially called Neuhauser Tor, the gate got renamed after Karl Theodor in 1797. It used to have three towers, but one of them got destroyed by a gunpowder explosion in 1857.

It only takes a few minutes of walking to get here from the main train station, so it doesn't take much time to see this vibrant and lively place.
