Including several viaducts, this 17.2 kilometres long cable-stayed bridge is the longest one in Europe. Opened to traffic in 1998, this bridge is named after the famous Portuguese discoverer. The opening year also marks the 500th anniversary of his voyage to India. If the weather is foggy, this bridge almost seems to be emerging out of nowhere.
