Zōjō-ji Temple

This Buddhist temple served as the family shrine to the Tokugawas - one of Japan's most famous families. Six out of the fifteen Tokugawa shoguns lie buried here. It is also a great spot for taking pictures of the Tokyo Tower.

In addition to the graves of the shoguns, you can also find another strange sight at the back of the temple - the unborn children garden. The small area is full of statues, each representing a child that could not live past infancy - either miscarried, aborted, or stillborn.

The easiest way to get here is to travel to the Hamamatsu - cho station and then go by foot.
