Castles and Towers

Alghero’s coastline and historic center are defined by a network of defensive towers and fortifications dating primarily from the 14th to the 18th centuries. These structures include massive city wall bastions like Torre di Sulis and isolated coastal lookouts such as Torre della Pegna. Built during the Aragonese and Spanish periods, they served to protect the city and surrounding bays from maritime incursions.

Torre della Pegna

Located on the cliffs of Capo Caccia at an elevation of 270 meters, this Catalan-Aragonese tower served as a strategic lookout over the Porto Conte marine area.

Torre di Porto Conte

Also known as Torre del Port del Comte, this 16th-century coastal defense structure sits on the eastern shore of the Porto Conte bay.

Torre de Sant Joan / Torre di San Giovanni

A prominent circular tower within Alghero's city walls, historically used for defensive surveillance and later as a prison.
