This selection traces the evolution of Cascais from a prehistoric settlement to a strategic maritime defense point. Forte Novo (troço de muralha)

A preserved section of the coastal defense walls that once protected the Cascais shoreline from maritime incursions.

Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora da Luz

A 15th-century fortification integrated into the Citadel of Cascais. Strategically positioned at the mouth of the Tagus, it served as a primary defense for the bay and the approach to Lisbon.

Grutas do Poço Velho

Marégrafo de Cascais

An 1882 analog tide gauge, the first of its kind in Portugal. It remains operational and was historically used to determine the country's mean sea level and altimetric datum.
