Prefectura de Fukui

Castles and Historic Ruins

Explore the architectural evolution of Fukui's feudal defense systems, ranging from the original 16th-century wooden keep of Maruoka Castle to the sprawling excavations of the Ichijōdani Asakura Family Historic Ruins. This collection highlights diverse structures including the 'Castle in the Sky' at Echizen Ono, the massive stone-walled moats of Fukui Castle, and the religious stronghold of Yoshizaki-gobō. These sites preserve original stonework, reconstructed towers, and the urban layouts of Japan's Sengoku and Edo periods.
