Pula

Historic Fortifications

Pula served as the primary naval base for the Austro-Hungarian Empire, resulting in a sophisticated defensive system of over 20 forts and numerous batteries. This collection highlights the diverse military architecture of the 19th and early 20th centuries, from the 17th-century Venetian Kaštel to the massive circular forts like Bourguignon and Marie Louise. These stone structures, strategically positioned on hills and coastal peninsulas, offer a unique look into Istria's strategic military history.

Mletačka utvrda

A 17th-century Venetian star-shaped fortress designed by Antoine de Ville. Located on Pula's highest hill, it now houses the Historical and Maritime Museum of Istria and offers panoramic city views.

Utrdba Marija Luisa - Muzil / Utvrda Marie Louise

A large circular coastal fort on the Muzil peninsula, built in the mid-19th century to protect the entrance to Pula's naval harbor.

Fort Turtian
