Historic Landmarks of Alicante

Alicante’s history is defined by its strategic coastal position, visible in the 9th-century Castle of Santa Bárbara on Mount Benacantil and the 18th-century Baroque Town Hall. A unique feature of the region is the Huerta de Alicante defensive network, a series of 16th and 17th-century watchtowers like Torre El Ciprés and Torre de Santa Faz built to protect against pirate raids.
