Historic Religious Sites

Mision de San Ignacio

Founded in 1728, this mission features thick volcanic stone walls and Moorish-influenced architecture. Located in a central desert oasis, it remains one of the most intact Jesuit structures on the peninsula.

Misión San Luis Gonzaga Chiriyaqui

A mid-18th-century stone church that replaced an earlier 1740 structure. It stands as a well-preserved example of the austere colonial architecture used during the Jesuit expansion into the Baja California interior.

Misión San Francisco Javier de Viggé-Biaundó

Completed in 1758, this massive volcanic stone structure is widely considered the best-preserved mission in the region. It retains its original Baroque facade, gilded altarpieces, and historical mission bells.

Parroquia de la Purísima Concepción

Established in 1720, this site marks one of the early Jesuit settlements in the region. The parish continues to serve as the religious and community hub for the surrounding agricultural valley of La Purísima.

Misión de Nuestra Señora de Loreto Conchó

Founded in 1697, this is the first permanent Spanish mission in the Californias, known as the 'Mother of all Missions.' The current stone structure dates to 1740 and includes a museum detailing colonial history.
