Drenthe Essentials
Drenthe is characterized by its ancient megalithic tombs, known as hunebedden, and its unique social history. This selection includes the UNESCO-listed Colonies of Benevolence at Veenhuizen and Frederiksoord, established in the 19th century to combat poverty. It features the somber WWII memorial site of Kamp Westerbork and the adjacent radio telescope array. Hunebed D16 Balloo
A prehistoric megalithic tomb belonging to the Funnelbeaker culture. Located near the Balloërveld heathland, this Neolithic burial site consists of nine capstones and is one of the many ancient stone structures found throughout the province.
Mensinge
An exceptionally well-preserved 14th-century manor house, or "havezate," located in Roden. The interior remains authentically furnished with original pieces, providing insight into the lifestyle of the Dutch nobility from the 18th and 19th centuries.
