Memorials and Monuments

Gibraltar’s landscape is defined by monuments reflecting its strategic military history and international significance. This collection includes the Victorian-era 100 Ton Gun at Napier of Magdala Battery and the Cross of Sacrifice, honoring Commonwealth soldiers from both World Wars. Key figures are commemorated through the Duke of Wellington Monument and the Eliott Memorial, dedicated to the defender of the Great Siege. Modern history is represented by the Sikorski Memorial, marking a 1943 plane crash, and the Cradle of History monument.

Duke of Wellington Monument

Cross of Sacrifice

A Commonwealth war memorial built of Portland stone near the North Front Cemetery. Unveiled in 1922, it honors the soldiers who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars.

100 Ton Gun

This RML 17.75-inch rifled muzzle-loading gun at Napier of Magdala Battery is one of only two surviving examples in the world. Built in 1870, it was designed to defend against heavily armored warships.

The Eliott Memorial
