Gotland is defined by the UNESCO-listed Hanseatic town of Visby, home to a remarkably preserved 13th-century defensive wall and numerous medieval church ruins like St. Katarina. Beyond the city, the island features the Lummelunda Cave’s karst formations and the cinematic landscapes of Fårö, where the Bergman Center honors filmmaker Ingmar Bergman. Hanseatic Town of Visby

A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1994, this remarkably preserved medieval trading center is enclosed by a 3.4-kilometer stone wall. It features narrow cobblestone streets and over 200 stone buildings dating from the 12th to 14th centuries.

Established in 1855 near the sea, this garden benefits from Gotland’s mild maritime climate to cultivate exotic species. It features a notable collection of magnolias, mulberry trees, and a large rose garden adjacent to the medieval city wall.

Kruttornet

Also known as the Gunpowder Tower, this is the oldest surviving part of Visby’s fortifications, dating back to approximately 1160. Originally built as a free-standing defensive tower to protect the harbor, it was later integrated into the city wall.

Stora torget

Visby’s central square dates back to the 14th century and serves as the heart of the inner city. It is bordered by historic buildings and the massive ruins of St. Katarina Church, hosting seasonal markets and outdoor dining.

Lummelunda Cave

The Lummelunda Cave is located in a nature reserve at Lummelunda north of Visby on Gotland, Sweden.

Bergman Center

Hoburg fyr

Located at the southernmost tip of Gotland on the Hoburgen peninsula, this lighthouse was first lit in 1846. The surrounding area is characterized by dramatic limestone cliffs and the famous Hoburgsgubben rock formation.

Sudersand Beach

Wide beach situated on Farö island is popular especially with windsurfers but definitely offers something for everyone.
