Šibenik is distinguished by the UNESCO-protected Cathedral of St. James, a 15th-century stone masterpiece built without mortar. The city’s defense is anchored by four historic fortifications: the hilltop St. Michael’s, Barone, and St. John’s fortresses, alongside the sea-based St. Nicholas Fortress.
