Snæfellsnes Unmissables
Snæfellsnes features the 700,000-year-old Snæfellsjökull glacier-capped volcano, famously cited in Jules Verne’s 'Journey to the Center of the Earth'. The peninsula contains a high concentration of Iceland’s geological hallmarks, including the hexagonal basalt columns of Gerðuberg, the twin volcanic plugs of Lóndrangar, and the symmetrical Kirkjufell mountain. Cultural sites include the 19th-century black wooden church at Búðir and the Bjarnarhöfn farm, which remains a primary producer of traditional fermented shark meat using centuries-old drying methods.
