Streymoy Peaks & Viewpoints
Streymoy, the largest of the Faroe Islands, features a dramatic landscape of basalt peaks and coastal escarpments. This collection spans from the 749-meter high plateau of Sornfelli to the sheer 564-meter vertical cliffs of Mýlingur in the north. It includes historic vantage points like the 16th-century Skansin fortress in Tórshavn and roadside overlooks of Fossá, the archipelago’s tallest two-tiered waterfall. These sites provide clear perspectives of the surrounding islands, including Eysturoy, Vágar, and Nólsoy.
A Sornfelli
749-meter mountain plateau featuring a former NATO radar station. It offers 360-degree views of the archipelago and is accessible via a paved mountain road from the Oyggjarvegur.
B Loysingarfjall
639-meter peak located in the central highlands of Streymoy, overlooking the village of Kvívík and the sound separating Streymoy from Eysturoy.
Mýlingur
A massive 564-meter cliff at the northernmost point of the island. Known for its distinct jagged shape and a vertical drop into the ocean, it is reached via a hiking trail from Tjørnuvík.
D Skansin
Historic 16th-century fortress built to defend Tórshavn from pirate raids. The site contains several 19th-century British cannons and a prominent white and red lighthouse.
Fossá waterfall view
Roadside vantage point located near Haldarsvík, providing a full view of the Faroe Islands' tallest waterfall. The water descends 140 meters over two distinct basalt tiers.
Vesturvarði
A prominent stone cairn situated on the ridge overlooking Tórshavn. It marks a traditional mountain path and serves as a navigation point with views toward the island of Nólsoy.

Located along the Oyggjarvegur mountain road, this pull-off provides a panoramic perspective of Tórshavn, the harbor, and the neighboring island of Nólsoy across the water.
Kirkjubøreyn
A 351-meter mountain ridge above the historic village of Kirkjubøur. The plateau features numerous small tarns and offers views of the islands of Hestur, Koltur, and Sandoy.
Gívrufelli
700-meter peak situated above the village of Saksun. The mountain is characterized by steep slopes and provides views of the Saksunardalur valley and the tidal lagoon.
Sandfelli
537-meter mountain located in the northern part of Streymoy. It sits within the rugged interior between the villages of Haldarsvík and Saksun.
Miðalfelli
542-meter peak in the central-northern region of Streymoy, forming part of the mountainous backbone that separates the eastern and western coasts.
Postulakirkja
A mountain peak reaching 621 meters, located on the northern peninsula near Tjørnuvík. Its name translates to 'The Apostle Church,' referring to its distinctive rock formations.
