Ancient Ruins and Historical Sites

This collection spans the historical breadth of the Chalkidiki peninsula, from the Classical city-states of Olynthos and Stagira—the birthplace of Aristotle—to the Byzantine fortifications that guarded the region. Highlights include the Temple of Ammon Zeus in Kallithea, the archaeological site of Toroni with its ancient harbor remains, and the Monastery of Zygos, a rare example of an Athonite monastery outside the current monastic state. Visitors can also explore Macedonian tombs in Derveni and the defensive walls of Potidaia.
