Historic Sites on Föhr

Föhr’s landscape is shaped by centuries of maritime and agricultural history. This collection highlights the island's architectural heritage, featuring the three "Frisian Cathedrals"—medieval churches in Süderende, Nieblum, and Wyk known for their Romanesque and Gothic elements. The list also includes the Lembecksburg ring wall, prehistoric megalithic tombs near Utersum, and several well-preserved 19th-century Dutch-style windmills that once served as vital landmarks for navigation and local industry.

Sankt Laurentii

12th-century Romanesque and Gothic church in Süderende. Its cemetery is famous for "talking gravestones" that narrate the life stories of local seafarers and whalers.

Lembecksburg

A preserved Viking-age ring wall fortification near Borgsum. The rampart stands 10 meters high and provides a clear example of early medieval defensive architecture.

Wrixumer Mühle

A historic 1851 Dutch-style ground-sailer windmill in Wrixum. This "Erdholländer" is one of the island's prominent architectural landmarks.

St. Nicolai
