Hida Essentials

Hida combines centuries-old tradition with modern scientific achievement. The historic district of Furukawa is defined by the Seto River and its white-walled storehouses, which house the intricate floats of the UNESCO-recognized Furukawa Festival. To the north, the Kamioka area features a reconstructed castle and the Kamioka Lab, an interactive facility dedicated to Nobel Prize-winning neutrino research. Religious heritage is preserved through the 300-year-old Three Temple Pilgrimage, while local craftsmanship is showcased in historic sake breweries and archaeological collections.

起し太鼓の里協会・飛騨古川まつり会館

This museum exhibits three of the nine ornate festival floats (yatai) used in the Furukawa Festival. It features a 4K theater and displays related to the energetic Okoshi Daiko (Rousing Drum) ritual held every April.

Setogawa-river good view point

A scenic canal lined with over 1,000 colorful carp and traditional white-walled storehouses (kura). The area preserves the architectural aesthetic of the Edo period and serves as the central landmark of the Furukawa historic district.

飛騨みやがわ考古民俗館

This museum houses over 30,000 artifacts, including a significant collection of Jomon-period stone tools and pottery. It also displays traditional mountain-village tools and domestic items unique to the Hida region.
