Historical and Heritage Sites
Nara served as Japan's capital during the 8th century, a pivotal era for the nation's religious and political development. This collection features UNESCO-listed landmarks including Todai-ji, home to the Great Buddha, and the sprawling Heijo Palace site. The list also highlights significant kofun (burial mounds) like the Tomio Maruyama and imperial tombs, alongside the 16th-century Koriyama Castle ruins and ancient Shinto shrines such as Himuro and Isagawa.
Five-storied pagoda
This 50-meter-tall wooden structure, reconstructed in 1426, is the second tallest pagoda in Japan. It is a primary landmark of the Kofuku-ji temple complex and originally dates back to the year 730.
