Nara served as Japan's capital during the 8th century, a pivotal era for the nation's religious and political development. Five-storied pagoda
This 50-meter-tall wooden structure, reconstructed in 1426, is the second tallest pagoda in Japan. It is a primary landmark of the Kofuku-ji temple complex and originally dates back to the year 730.
